While initially the lack of suitable airplanes was source of national embarrassment, towards the end of the war British designers came up with appropriate long-range bombers, such as Handley Page’s famous 0/100, 0/400, and V1500. A less famous member of this “heavies” club is the two-engined biplane bomber, the Blackburn Kangaroo, which was a development of an earlier Blackburn seaplane design dating from about 1916. A large airplane for its time, the Kangaroo was a fair few feet bigger all round than the later, more famous, Vickers Vimy. Its fuselage had an elongate and extended appearance making the airplane look a little lanky, and I suppose this is where the name “Kangaroo” comes from. In service, the Kangaroo was used in the anti-submarine and coastal reconnaissance roles. It served with just one RAF squadron, No. However, it was responsible for one confirmed kill, U-10 in August 1918, and possibly accounted for others. In this latter role, they remained flying well into the 1920s. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Transportation\Aviation\Military Aircraft\Desk & Shelf Models”.
